Biodiversity Collage in Swedish with local ecosystem examples

The “Biodiversity Collage” is a workshop that offers a participatory and creative experience promoting awareness of biodiversity and encourages participants to reflect on their role in its preservation. It provides a tool to understand the challenges and pressures around biodiversity, through a fun, collaborative, visual and accessible deck of cards, based on scientific reports from IPBES.
The original was developed by the French organisation La Fresque de la Biodiversité in 2018. Although available in many languages and used braodly in Sweden in English, we wanted to translate it into Swedish and add also local ecosystem examples, enhancing awareness of the situation in Swedish coastal waters and our land use. Researchers at Lund University and the University of Gothenburg has contributed through Mistra BIOPATH and SamBio, connected to the Gothenburg, Global Biodiversity Center.

At the Swedish Biodiversity Symposium, 21-23 October 2025, the workshop and the new version will be presented in the poster area linked to the session 28: Raising awareness and action for biodiversity - the potential of places and pedagogy | Swedish Biodiversity Symposium. Come and find us there and give us your feedback and thoughts on the material.
We will be hosting workshops for our partners and support with training for those who wish to become facilitators for other groups.

About the Biodiversity Collage
The workshop requires no prior knowledge and is for everyone who is interested in understanding the complex issues of biodiversity better. Mixed groups of students, companies, citizens and decision-makers provide opportunities to explore and share various perspectives.
How is it organised?
Duration: a 3 hours physical (preferred) or online workshop
Particpants in teams of 6-8 persons
Activity: Explore ecosystems and build a collage by arranging cards containing scientific information guided by a trained facilitator.
A debriefing session follows to address emotions, discuss solutions, and encourage participants to take action. The final part involves reflection, sharing and an optional role play.
What is new in the Swedish version?
Ecosystem examples from Swedish wetland habitats and coastal waters has been developed by Mistra BIOPATH and SamBio. The idea is to increase understanding of biodiversity loss in Sweden by relating to local examples and the way our nearby ecosystems are affected. A facilitators guide and support material is also available in Swedish.
