Mistra BIOPATH contributes to the Swedish business sector’s work on biodiversity - submit your input!
On 4 June 2026, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency officially launched a new Government mandate to strengthen the business sector’s work on biodiversity. The initiative will be carried out in dialogue with authorities, companies and other stakeholders, with the aim of accelerating collaboration, knowledge exchange and practical action.
At the online kickoff, which gathered around 200 participants from across sectors, Mistra BIOPATH contributed by bringing in the latest science. Susanne Arvidsson, Programme Director, also presented key insights from the recent IPBES Business and Biodiversity Assessment in an adaptation in Swedish.
She highlighted that the report provides clear, concrete guidance for different actors, summarised in ten Key Messages. Much relevant knowledge and applicable methods already exist, what is needed now is implementation.
Mistra BIOPATH will contribute by supporting policy, industry and the financial system
“I urge companies to build internal capacity to be able to act and integrate biodiversity considerations into decision making, core business strategies and governance structures, says Susanne Arvidsson. “The work that will be driven by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency is very important and Mistra BIOPATH will contribute by supporting policy, industry and he financial system in assessing dependencies and impacts across the value chain and identify risks and opportunities linked to nature loss”.

The Government assignment on Business and Biodiversity aims to result in practical measures that enable companies to act across their value chains, reducing both direct and indirect impacts on biodiversity. This is expected to strengthen resilience and competitiveness at local, EU and global levels, in line with the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The results of the assignment will be reported in autumn 2028.
