Standardisation of Biodiversity - Dialogue seminar with SIS
In the Mistra BIOPATH Dialogue seminars we invite experts within and outside the consortia to share their knowledge and insights related in various ways to the loss of biodiversity and innovative approaches on how to integrate biodiversity in financial decision-making. In January 2025, we had the pleasure to learn from Laura Linnala, Project Manager Circular Economy, DPP and Biodiversity, Swedish Institute for Standards (SIS).
Learn more about SIS work in the area for Biodiversity- SIS/TK 623. Here a translated excerpt from their website:
“Biological diversity is crucial for stable ecosystems. Without diversity, many of the resources we use in our everyday lives will disappear. To enable effective work for biological diversity, a common understanding and perception of the area is essential. The work needs to be done at an international level. International standards will play an important role in the future – through SIS/TK 623 Biological Diversity, Swedish organisations are influencing international efforts.”
……
“ISO standards aim to promote the development of a clear, global and consistent understanding of biodiversity. Issues relating to how it should be defined and measured within specific biotopes will be discussed. The initiative is cross-sectoral and cross-industry and is aimed at all relevant stakeholders, including the public sector, industry and stakeholder organisations. The advantage of working on biodiversity at a global level is that we can facilitate a common understanding and methodology for these issues, which until now have been limited to various national approaches.”
